If you work in an organization meeting the needs of at risk communities, chances are you’ve encountered issues of childhood hunger without even knowing it.
Join us on June 3rd at 2pm EDT via webinar for America Forward’s second policy briefing of the year entitled“Why Ending Child Hunger is an Education, Workforce, and Public Health Issue” to find out the ways child hunger impacts your organization and what you can do to connect kids to the nutritional foundations they need to succeed in school, the workforce, and in life.
We’ll be joined by Josh Wachs, an extraordinary presenter and dynamic Chief Strategy Officer of Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit working to end childhood hunger in America. Josh launched the No Kid Hungry campaign in 2010 to bring a more strategic, metrics-driven approach to childhood hunger. As a result, the organization made the leap from short-term incremental progress in favor of long-term transformational change. Today, under Josh’s leadership, the No Kid Hungry campaign is not simply helping kids get food today; it’s ending childhood hunger in America.
The campaign crafts public/private partnerships around the nation, working with government leaders, corporate partners, non-profits, educators and advocates. Together, these groups implement the No Kid Hungry campaign’s unique strategy that combines increased access to nutrition programs with nutrition education for families. Since its launch, the No Kid Hungry campaign has successfully connected low-income children around the nation to more than 34 million additional meals.
Child hunger is an issue that affects many of the populations that many of your organizations serve on a daily basis and touches the lives of millions of kids and families in America. In fact, 1 in 5 kids in this nation struggle with hunger. Join us on June 3rd to learn about how Josh and Share Our Strength is successfully tackling this issue and revolutionizing the way policymakers, school officials, community leaders, service providers, the business sector, and the American public, are addressing the need for every child in America to have access to healthy food.
We’re also excited to welcome Debra Eschmeyer, Co-Founder and Vice President of External Affairs of New Profit portfolio organization FoodCorps, to help facilitate the discussion with Josh. FoodCorps is an innovative nonprofit that places Corps members in schools to educate kids about real food and where it comes from and to create access to healthy food in their school meals. Very recently, FoodCorps joined First Lady Michelle Obama and local students to plant the White House Kitchen Garden.
In addition, we’ll be joined by Alex Nock from Penn Hill Group, to address the current policy opportunities in this space and the ways in which your organization may benefit from and engage in upcoming legislative opportunities. We’ll also be joined by Jeff Jablow, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Operations at City Year, to address systems change opportunities and working within schools to end child hunger.
