Every month, America Forward highlights examples of the vital work our Coalition members do to support students, families, educators, workers, elected leaders, advocates, and communities across the country. If your organization has resources, an announcement, or a story you would like to see included, please send it to america_forward@newprofit.org.

Apprenticeships for America

America Forward is incredibly excited to welcome Apprenticeships for America to our Coalition! Apprenticeships for America seeks to build a strong workforce and empower workers through funding, scaling, and raising awareness about the power of apprenticeships. You can learn more about their critical work to advance workforce development on their website today. Their online presence also provides key resources to learn more about apprenticeships and their work – including publications giving context to government work impacting apprenticeships, guides and resources on apprenticeship work, and more!

Equal Opportunity Schools

Equal Opportunity Schools focuses on connecting underserved and underrepresented students with advanced educational opportunities, and supporting their success. They work to ensure that every student has the chance to reach their full potential by partnering with districts across the country to elevate their evidence base and ensure equal access to advanced academic programming. They provide a number of online resources, including a library of research and data, recorded webinars, videos that spotlight their success, and annual reports that highlight how their programs uplift students.

The People

As we head towards fall, the 2024 election is top of mind for people across the country. The People is a national, nonpartisan nonprofit doing essential work to organize, promote, and engage people in government, uplift communities, and increase civic engagement. They’ve created an extensive voting guide with data on how to register, how to vote in person or by mail, advice for new voters, ballot information, ways to check your registration status, and more! They also have a helpful guide for those looking to engage with local media, including via a letter to the editor.

uAspire

uAspire works to support underrepresented and under-resourced students in their journey to postsecondary education, in order to create the foundation for strong futures and economic mobility throughout their lives. Last month, they partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Education to offer a free helpdesk for students and families across the state that need assistance with completing the FAFSA application. FAFSA is critical to the accessibility of higher education for students from Pennsylvania and across the country, and recent delays and roadblocks have left students facing additional barriers to completion – which UAspire and PDE hope to combat across the state with this extra assistance. You can text 13-PA-FAFSA (313-723-2372) to receive personalized support today.

Zearn

Zearn is a nonprofit that strives to uplift math learning across the country via a proven program that allows students to develop critical math skills, grasp new concepts, and advance their confidence in the subject. This summer, Shalinee Sharma, CEO and co-founder of Zearn, released a new book – Math Mind – that dives into the myths about math, why universal numeracy is so important, and key strategies to help make math accessible for all students. You can get your copy of Math Mind, or learn more about Zearn programming, online today.
