Every month, America Forward is highlighting a few examples of the vital work being done by our Coalition members to support students, families, educators, workers, elected leaders, advocates, and communities across the country. If your organization has resources, an announcement, or a story that you would like to see included, please send it to america_forward@newprofit.org.
Michelson 20MM
Every student deserves access to “affordable, equitable, culturally relevant, and high-quality learning experiences.” To improve that access, break down barriers to learning, and ensure every young person has the resources they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond, Michelson 20MM is working to increase institutional use of open educational resources (OER). To this end, the organization offers key resources, including links to free and low-cost educational materials, information on new solutions and research, community building opportunities, and more.
Service Year Alliance
Service Year Alliance facilitates hands-on work experiences for young people that foster key skills development and growth, connecting young people to job and workforce opportunities. To both grow their community and support their students, Service Year offers a collection of organization resources, including webinars, FAQ’s, toolkits, and more.
Single Stop
As part of their efforts working to reduce poverty across the country, Single Stop provides a robust database of resources to connect their families and community members with existing support opportunities and public benefits. Those interested can sign up to learn more about eligibility for these programs, or browse their extensive network of resources to find what they need.
YouthBuild
To support both YouthBuild staff and alumni, and national and local YouthBuild partners, the organization recently published two new resources. Building Financial Capability with Opportunity Youth provides “guidance on how to provide students with accessible and inclusive financial resources and tools that help develop the skillsets and mindsets that lead to financial stability.” Building Financial Capability with YouthBuild Programs and Opportunity Youth provides “suggested approaches and considerations for designing and implementing opportunity-youth-centered financial capability resources, products, and services.”
The Learning Accelerator
The Learning Accelerator is committed to providing every educational stakeholder with the tools and resources they need to ensure that all learners are able to reach their full potential. To support this effort, The Learning Accelerator offers key resources and guidance for educators, school leaders, community groups, caregivers, and more, to help every learner thrive.
Year Up
Year Up’s efforts to close the opportunity divide include supporting young people as they work to realize their full academic and career potential, and providing job training that strengthens and bolsters their developmental and workplace skills. To ensure their community has access to the information they need to succeed in their program and beyond, Year Up provides answers to a comprehensive list of FAQs for students, corporate partners, volunteers and donors.
