The problem
All around the country, communities and social innovators are finding better ways to solve new — and old —problems. While the federal government ought to be lifting up these successful efforts, in too many cases government is getting in the way by creating barriers and red tape, using cumbersome policy tools that stifle innovation, and investing in programs that do not work. Inertia, political divisiveness, and overemphasis on compliance have frozen in place ineffective and inefficient systems designed decades ago.

We need to activate America’s problem solvers — the inventors, the entrepreneurs, the organizations that get things done in their communities, the people who want to make a difference, the businesses that provide jobs and are willing to work with communities.
