The U.S. Public Service Academy will be America’s first national public civilian college. As the civilian counterpart to the military service academies, it will be devoted to developing leaders of character dedicated to service in the public sector.
Modeled on the military academies, the Public Service Academy will provide a rigorous, federally-subsidized undergraduate education followed by five years of civilian service to the country. It will offer more than 5,000 students a unique curriculum that combines a broad-based liberal arts education with an emphasis on public service and leadership development. Academy graduates will fan out across the country to work in health care, law enforcement, emergency management, education, and other critical public sector fields at the local, state, and national levels.
The Academy will raise the visibility and prestige of the public sector, and it will help transform the way young Americans perceive, prepare for, and pursue public service. It will develop a corps of young leaders with the character, intellect, and experience necessary to meet the public sector challenges of the 21st century.
