Since 1997, REDF has helped more than 3,200 people develop the skills to escape homelessness and poverty, while simultaneously giving rise to the fields of social enterprise and venture philanthropy. REDF forms alliances with, and makes investments in, a portfolio of nonprofit organizations to create jobs and training opportunities in social enterprises. REDF provides assistance that enables nonprofits to run revenue-generating businesses that employ and educate at-risk individuals.

Results

  • Eighty-six percent of REDF enterprise employees are still working and/or enrolled in an academic or vocational training program two years after hire.
  • REDF has dramatically reduced enterprise employees’ prison incarceration; while 27 percent of employees start their jobs with a pre-hire criminal history, two years after hire, their recidivism rate is a low two percent.
  • Nine out of ten individuals who were homeless when hired progress to stable home situations.
