Headquarters: Washington, DC | Founded: 2004 | www.generationengage.org

GenerationEngage is involving young people without a college education in sustained civic participation through conversations with prominent civic leaders. GenerationEngage’s nonpartisan grassroots strategy creates local forums for young people across the country to debate important social issues and impact their futures. In partnership with Apple, Google, and G2, GenerationEngage disseminates videocast footage of iChats and other GenGage forums to tens of thousands of viewers each day, providing an interactive alternative to 30-second TV ads and other one-way media. Recent iChats have been keynoted by President Bill Clinton, General Colin Powell, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

Results

  • From August 2006 through August 2007, 3,450 GenerationEngage members participated in GenGage HotSpot events and iChats; 2,030 members participated in GenGage Engagement Partnerships and community projects with partner NGOs; and 1,010 members participated in GenGage’s local Ambassadors Programs.
  • Of 32,456 respondents to a GenerationEngage/Harvard Institute of Politics 2007 Engagement Survey, 64 percent reported participating in some form of local GenerationEngage activities once every six weeks since joining the network.
