City Year demonstrates every day that a diverse group of young leaders, 17–24 years old, has the power to make a difference. City Year corps members are tutors, mentors, and role models who lead youth service programs, make a positive impact in their schools and communities, and in the process become leaders and active citizens. Since 1988, more than 9,500 City Year corps members have served more than 14.5 million hours, helping nearly one million children, engaging more than 945,000 citizens in their work, and earning access to $30 million in college scholarships through the AmeriCorps National Service Trust.

Results

  • At every site, City Year partners with schools and community organizations to meet local needs and priorities. Ninety-four percent of principals with City Year corps members in their classrooms agree or strongly agree that corps members “fulfill a critical need for our school.”
  • A study of City Year alumni revealed that the men and women who serve in City Year become leaders for life. City Year alumni are 45 percent more likely to vote than 18- to 40- year-olds in the national population.
