This month Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) unveiled the Serve America Act of 2008—a landmark piece of legislation that proposes several America Forward policy ideas: a Community Solutions Fund Network to bring effective solutions to scale, a Commission on Cross-Sector Solutions to spur change within the federal government, and Serve America Fellowships to support future social entrepreneurs.
Senator Hatch further echoed America Forward thinking when he explained his rationale for introducing the bill: "America faces more challenges today than ever before. And new challenges require a new level of commitment. By harnessing the talents and efforts of the American people, faith-based groups and nonprofit organizations, we can empower more people, improve more communities and tackle more of our nation's greatest challenges." How amazing to see the level of influence achieved by the America Forward Coalition!
As momentum behind the bill grows with Presidential candidates Senator McCain and Senator Obama joining Senators Clinton (D-NY), Dodd (D-CT) and Cochran (R-MI) as co-sponsors, add your organization’s voice to a collective “Yes!” for the Serve America Act and watch this space as we chart the progress of this exciting piece of legislation.
